Last year, we combined parents' and children's day together to host a Family Day Carnival. This event was the biggest for the Centre and took us two months to put together. The key teachers came together in August to discuss on the foundation ideas before we met with the team. We had to ensure that we went to Town Council and book the multi-purpose hall, seek parents partnership and support in terms of providing decorations, snack and activity ideas!

We conducted a meeting with the team to share our ideas and invited them to pick a duty that compliments their strengths. Teachers were excited to host the biggest event of the year! It was also our first as a new team after the Centre went through amalgamation in May 2023.

It took a few drafts before the team agreed on a poster to send out to parents and at the last minute, we decided to have carnival stamp cards as well for children to collect stamps and retrieve a gift before they went home. Children were so excited to collect their stamps and it encouraged them to join a long queue during the event itself!

The event was a success with 100% attendance! Most of them went home after the event, but some had to nap in school. We provided afternoon activities such as movie screening and recap on their favourite game booth from the carnival. The event was meaningful and memorable for children. Parents shared in their feedback forms that they truly appreciate the efforts that was put in for the event and were pleased to see their children display skills they learnt in class!

Given the opportunity, I would love to host such meaningful and fun events for parents and children! Even though it took a lot of time, effort and planning; it was all worth it in the end! I learnt new skills such as event planning, crowd management and procurement which is a brand new set of skills on top of the usual ECDA Courses that are catered to teaching and learning skills - and nothing beats learning from experience!
